Three mature trees have been so badly damaged by Hertfordshire County Council contractors working for Herts Highways on pavement repairs at Mobbsbury shops, Mobbsbury Way, Stevenage, that the tree officer for Stevenage Borough Council (SBC) was called in and ordered the immediate removal of two of the trees and severe pruning of the third tree on safety grounds.

Figures released this week by Stevenage Borough Council (SBC) reveal that sickness absence amongst the council's staff is over 40% higher than the next worst local council in Hertfordshire. Sickness absence levels at Stevenage Homes, which is the "arms length" organization running SBC's housing stock, is almost as bad, at over 33% higher than the next worst local council in Hertfordshire.

Recent scrutiny research by councillor Robin Parker, Liberal Democrat group leader on Stevenage Borough Council (SBC), has revealed that the Labour dominated council pay up to 17 p a copy for council officials to deliver 35,000 copies of the SBC propaganda magazine Chronicle, four times a year. A local newspaper pays its deliverers 4 p a copy - and each newspaper weighs over six times that of Chronicle.

Scrutiny research by Stevenage Borough Council (SBC) Liberal Democrat group leader, councillor Robin Parker, has revealed that the Labour dominated council spent about £16,000 of local council taxpayers' money in May on 4 nights and 2 days entertainment for some Labour and Conservative local councillors, SBC officials and 17 guests from the French and German twin towns of Autun and Ingelheim (7 from Autun and 10 from Ingelheim) - but there was only one business meeting in the weekend concerned.

Herts Highways, set up and run by Tory dominated Hertfordshire County Council, have written to Chells County Councillor, Liberal Democrat Robin Parker, to say they could not find an orange flasher at a zebra crossing on Mobbsbury Way, Chells, Stevenage, which was reported to them by Robin on 22.5.2010, because it is out - despite Mobbsbury Way being a road currently under investigation by Herts Highways for safety concerns.

At the Annual General Meeting of Stevenage Borough Council on 26.5.2010, Liberal Democrat opposition group leader, Robin Parker, spoke on 5 separate examples which were forced through by the huge Labour majority at the meeting, whereby Labour "grabbed everything they could".

In a move described as "outrageous, undemocratic and contemptible" by Councillor Robin Parker, Liberal Democrat opposition group leader on Stevenage Borough Council, the ruling Labour majority group on Stevenage Borough Council have today announced that the Mayor of Stevenage must always be Labour again.

Now that the new government has been agreed, Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Stevenage, Julia Davies, and also Stevenage Borough Council Liberal Democrat leader and local party Chair, Robin Parker, have both signed the petition calling for fair votes organised by the campaigning group Take Back Parliament.
